Formula 1 Meets Fashion at the 2025 Met Gala!

 

 One of the biggest fashion events in the world took place this Monday, May 5th, in the city where dreams are made 🗽, and the world’s premier motorsport championship made a striking appearance on the blue carpet!

 Fresh off a tense Miami Grand Prix the day before, Lewis Hamilton described his eighth-place finish as “frustrating.” The seven-time world champion then touched down in New York to co-host this year’s Met Gala. The 2025 theme, “The Garden of Time,” paid homage to 18th-century Black tailoring and dandyism, celebrating elegance, heritage, and cultural pride.

 On his Instagram Stories, Hamilton wrote, “We’ve always been here. We’ve always been stylish. Now, we’re seen.”

 A Met Gala veteran since 2015, Hamilton wore a custom ivory suit designed by British label Wales Bonner, led by designer Grace Wales Bonner. The look was completed with a beret and bow tie, and the color ivory was chosen for its symbolism: purity, status, and ancestral heritage. His stylist, Eric J. McNeal, added jewelry pieces from Briony Raymond, including a brooch and rings. “Ivory represents purity and power,” said McNeal. “The cowrie shells, passed from hand to hand, represent ancestral heritage and spirituality. The traditional royal sash was reimagined as a shamanic symbol, blending royalty with ritual.”

 The night also offered a major spotlight for the upcoming Formula 1 film. Actor Damson Idris, who stars alongside Brad Pitt, made a show-stopping entrance, literally driving a Formula 1 car to the event. He wore a custom APX GP racing suit, representing the fictional team his character races for in the film.

Beneath the racing gear, Idris wore a sleek burgundy tuxedo. His entrance was one of the most dramatic of the evening, thanks to a helmet encrusted with nearly 20,000 Swarovski crystals, inspired by his on-screen persona. Later, he revealed a second outfit: a red and gold plaid tuxedo designed by Tommy Hilfiger, infused with elements from his own fashion brand, DIDRIS.

From elegance to cinematic spectacle, Formula 1 took center stage at the Met Gala, proving that the intersection of sport, fashion, and culture has never been more thrilling! 🏎️
